TEX Rail: Station Planning

VIEW the proposed STATION CONCEPTS recommended for moving forward in the project.

There are several proposed station sites currently under consideration:

Summer Creek/Sycamore School Road Station
I-20/Granbury Station
TCU/Berry Station
Medical Center Station
7th Street (Western Bypass) Station
North Main (Western Bypass) Station
North Side Station
Beach Street Station
Haltom City Station
N Richland Hills/Iron Horse Station
N Richland Hills/Smithfield Station
Grapevine Main Street Station
DFW North Station
DFW Terminal A/B Station

Two stations in downtown Fort Worth – the Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) and the T&P terminal – are already in use by the existing TRE and other services. No major changes to these stations are expected at this time.

Transit Oriented Development

Transit Oriented Development (TOD) around proposed rail stations offer the communities of Fort Worth, Haltom City, North Richland Hills, Grapevine and DFW Airport ways to enhance the areas adjacent to the stations in ways that will serve riders of the proposed commuter rail.

Based on the input from local governments and citizens in the communities where stations are planned, the project team has developed TOD station area plans for some stations along the Tarrant Express route. As the commuter rail project evolves, the cities in which stations will be built will use these plans as a tool for enhancing development around the stations.

A Transit Oriented Development (TOD) workshop was conducted on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) in Fort Worth . The workshop was for the purpose of bringing people information about the possibilities regarding development adjacent to several stations along the route of the TEX Rail project. Invitees to the workshop included City of Fort Worth officials and staff, members of the project Community Resource Council (CRC) and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), property owners and development interests, neighborhood representatives and other interested parties. Station Planning Goals and Considerations

The goals for station location and design are to promote community relationships, enhance mobility options, and create sustainability through site location and architecture that is permanent, functional environmentally beneficial, and pleasant.

Community: Stations should integrate with existing neighborhoods, while minimizing negative impacts. The station should enhance community attributes, benefit community members, and minimize disruptions cased by the need to relocate homes and businesses.

Mobility: Station locations should serve the existing and future ridership base and should maximize system-wide ridership. Stations should provide access to nearby population and activity centers, while maintaining efficient operations.

Sustainability: The proposed stations should minimize impacts to the natural environment and should integrate existing environmental features into their design.

To see how these aspects are analyzed, and for more information about what goes into station planning considerations, please see the Station Planning Process & Guidelines.
