Commuter Rail Project Partners Sign Agreement
TEXRail on Track to Begin Operations in Late 2018

  • The Fort Worth Transportation Authority and the Federal Transit Administration signed a Full Funding Grant Agreement to complete funding for the TEXRail project. See Video and Article
  • TEXRail celebrated its groundbreaking in August 2016 with three ceremonies in one day. View Article
  • The Fort Worth Transportation Authority received a Letter of No Prejudice in June 2016 from the Federal Transit Administration. View Article
  • Representatives of five agencies recently signed an historic agreement related to the TEXRail commuter rail project. Fort Worth Transportation Authority’s President & CEO Paul Ballard welcomed representatives from around the nation at the Intermodal Transportation Center in downtown Fort Worth, where they signaled their cooperation and acknowledged that TEXRail is positioned to be “the envy of the rest of the country.” FWTA, Fort Worth & Western Railroad, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Union Pacific Railroad and Amtrak all came together for this key milestone.
  • Purchase of eight Stadler DMU FLIRT vehicles Fast Light Innovative Regional Train
  • In June 2015, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) approved TEXRail to move into the Engineering phase of its New Starts process, which is the final step before construction can begin. Entering Engineering authorized FWTA to place its order for the manufacture of train vehicles known as Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) with Stadler Bussnang AG (Stadler).
  • The new DMUs are significantly quieter and are lower in profile than the locomotive hauled coach technology previously planned, reducing the need for sound walls along the route. The new rail vehicles are articulated, allowing clear views through the majority of the train and allowing access between cars.
  • In addition, FWTA hired Archer Western/Herzog Joint Venture for pre-construction services to work closely with the project’s design team to achieve a more efficient and cost-effective design than was originally planned.
  • The FTA reviewed and approved changes, amending the Record of Decision to the TEXRail project, adding two stations in North Richland Hills and a dedicated maintenance facility. In response, FWTA commissioned the final design for the two North Richland Hills stations – the Iron Horse Station and the Smithfield Station – and is moving forward on land purchases for the TEXRail project.
  • FWTA is coordinating project specifics with the cities of Fort Worth, Grapevine and North Richland Hills, as well as DFW Airport, Texas Department of Transportation, the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Federal Railroad Administration and other partners.
